Educational progression routes for learners with learning difficulties and disabilities, with learners joining and working at the right level for their individual needs.

Courses and progression routes

1.Learning to Living (Pre-Entry Level)

A full time (four days per week) course, based at our Willesden campus, it is practical based designed for students with complex learning difficulties. Students work to develop their independence and develop their communication skills using intensive interaction as well as access their local community on a regular basis. 

The course includes:

  • Communication skills - includes communication through signs and symbols; art, music and drama; and using computers
  • Work skills - including social enterprise, external visits and work experience.
  • Community and leisure skills - includes visits to local libraries, using community facilities, and engaging in swimming and sporting activities.
  • Daily living skills - including using money, cooking, laundering clothes, household tasks and healthy lifestyle

Progression

Students are expected to progress onto the course ‘From Living to Learning or Adult Social Care funded Day Provision, or adult education courses.

Students to complete Preparation for Adulthood ASDAN qualification.

Supported Learning provision is working with different local authorities in providing Speech and language, occupation, and Physiotherapy to meet students’ needs

2.Preparation for Adulthood Course (Pre-Entry- Entry Level 1)

The purpose of this course is to build on existing knowledge and develop skills towards independent living and work. Each aspect of the course is tailored to the individual needs.

The course includes:

  • Daily living skills - including cooking, cycling, travel and budgeting and sports enrichment.
  • Community and leisure skills - including using community facilities and support services.
  • Employment skills – including social enterprise and external visits.
  • Communication skills - effective communication for social and educational situations including the Communication Café activities

Progression

Students can progress onto our ‘Preparation for Work’ course or into sheltered, supported or open employment.

Students to complete ASDAN Personal Progress and Math and English are imbedded in the courses.

3.Skills for Work Course (Entry Level 2-3)

A full time (four days per week) course, based at our Willesden Campus, for young people with moderate learning difficulties and an EHC Plan. The course supports students to develop employability core skills, key skills as well as work alongside our Supported Employment Coordinator to access work placements, volunteering and paid employment. It is for students who are looking to move onto Supported Internships or into employment next year.

The course includes:

  • Work skills - including the opportunity to undertake work experience in and outside of the college; preparing a CV; and visiting different workplaces
  • College part time paid Mini Jobs and enterprise projects
  • Communication skills - covering literacy, numeracy and ICT skills in preparation for employment and higher-level study
  • Daily living skills - including travel training, money skills and budgeting and sports enrichment
  • Community and leisure skills - engaging in community activities, at various local facilities.

Progression

Students will be looking to progress onto a Pre - or Supported internship, paid employment, or a college course at a higher level. Students to complete ASDAN Employability and math and English are imbedded in the course.

4. Pre-Internship Course (Entry Level 2-3)

A full time (four days per week) course, based at our Willesden Green Campus, for young people with moderate learning difficulties and an EHC Plan.

The course supports students to develop employability core skills, key skills as well as work alongside our Supported Employment Coordinator to access work placements, volunteering and paid employment.

The course includes college part time paid Mini Jobs and Enterprise and Enrichment activities.

It is for students who are looking to move onto Supported Internships or into employment next year.

Students to complete ASDAN Employability and math and English are imbedded in the course .

As part of the application process, we will talk to your teachers, parents/ cares and other people who know you to find out about your needs.

We will arrange a visit so you can look around. If you like it then you can have an interview and do a taster day.

Duration of courses

Courses are taught for 16.5 hours per week over 36 weeks in each college year. Students are in the College three or four days a week.

Progression

At every level, following successful completion, you will have the opportunity to progress onto the next level of study or take the opportunity to seek supported employment or other training.

Feedback

Parents/carers will get regular feedback on learners’ progress. Each student gets an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) and targets to help track progress.
