This Higher Technical Qualifications is approved against occupational standards decided by employers.

HTQs are Level 4 and 5 qualifications that have been approved by the Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education as meeting occupational standards for the relevant sector. These qualifications have been developed by awarding bodies in collaboration with employers and businesses so that students get the specific training, knowledge and skills required for their chosen career. Find out more about HTQs here.

How is the course taught?

Considering the nature and curriculum a lot of emphasis is on practical and workshop based learning which aims to stretch and challenge individuals. Group work and independent research are other learning styles included which provides learners the opportunity to develop and enrich their profile to succeed in both higher studies and employment. As a Higher Education Student you are required to attend up to 17 hours of sessions which includes Lectures, workshops and seminars per week over 2, 17 week semesters in each year. You will experience a variety of learning opportunities and styles, including group work and individual research, although the emphasis is on practical, workshop based learning intended to stretch and challenge each individual.

What support is available?

Our qualified tutors will support and guide you in the classrooms/workshops and through tutorials as they help you to develop the skills and techniques required in industry. Learning Support is also available for those with learning difficulties/disabilities; please let us know on application if you require this service. If you need help or advice on other matters such as welfare and finance, please contact our Course Information Centres at Willesden or Wembley Park.

What social activities can I take part in?

We offer a programme of social and sports activities to all our students; full information is available from the Student Room at your centre of study. Student rooms are available for those who want to play games, meet up with friends or just chill.

What facilities and resources are available?

A range of snacks, hot and cold foods are available to purchase in the canteen and café facilities, as well as vending machines. Halal meat and washing facilities are available at both centres. We have Quiet Rooms for those preferring to reflect. LRCs (libraries) are available at both centres, fully equipped with a wide range of learning materials and qualified friendly staff on hand to support you.

What else should I know?

Annually we take part in a range of national and regional competitions in a wide range of subject areas for those keen to show off the skills they have gained on their courses. Competition entry is not compulsory and does not apply to all subject areas; please ask your tutor if it applies to your course.

  • Is there additional work required by the student?
    The course is assessed entirely through coursework. A variety of assessment methods will be used which are designed to enable learners to meet the learning outcomes for the module and experience a range of methods in preparation for further study or employment. This includes written essays, reports, presentations, video, practical assignments and observations.

  • What are the Entry Requirements?
    Students are expected to have GCSE or equivalent qualifications in English and Math s(A-C grades). Level 3 or equivalent qualification in IT or computing or other related Level 3 qualifications equivalent to 120 UCAS points. Students who do not have formal qualifications at level 3 but can demonstrate extensive relevant work experience or achievement of professional qualifications in computing are also welcome to apply.
