There is a huge demand for training courses to keep up with the new treatments and techniques constantly coming to market. Our range and variety of courses will prepare you with the technical skills and knowledge you will need to work in the industry or maybe even set up your own business. A multi-million pound industry; it offers the opportunity to seek work in a wide variety of different settings such as hotels, cruise ships, high street shops and many more.

16 – 18 year olds are required to study full time and the programme will include Functional Skills or GCSE English and maths. As part of the course students are required to have a work placement in a salon which is attended weekly and to participate and attend other work -related activities to achieve their qualification Competition entry are a compulsory part of the course which enables students to build on their skills, employability, industrial experience and knowledge of the world at work

Modules include:

  • Follow health and safety in the salon
  • Client care and communication in beauty related industries
  • Promote products and service to clients in a salon
  • Salon reception duties
  • Provide facial skincare
  • Remove hair using waxing techniques
  • Provide manicure treatments
  • Provide pedicure treatments
  • Provide eyelash and brow treatments
  • Apply make up

You will need to purchase a beauty kit which costs approximately £350, including a text book and make up kit, uniform approx £30. Concessions are available to assist with the costs.  

How is the course taught?

You will be taught practical sessions in our fully equipped Hair and Beauty Salon open to the public for appointments during term time. Theory sessions will be delivered in the classroom. You will have the opportunity to participate in internal, regional and national competitions.

What support is available?

Our qualified tutors will support and guide you in the classrooms/workshops and through tutorials as they help you to develop the skills and techniques required in industry. Learning Support is also available for those with learning difficulties/disabilities; please let us know on application if you require this service. What social activities can I take part in?

We offer a programme of social and sports activities to all our students; full information is available from the Student Room at your centre of study. Student rooms are available for those who want to play games, meet up with friends or just chill.

What facilities and resources are available?

A range of snacks, hot and cold foods are available to purchase in the canteen and café facilities, as well as vending machines. Halal meat and washing facilities are available at both centres. We have Quiet Rooms for those preferring to reflect. LRCs (libraries) are available at both centres, fully equipped with a wide range of learning materials and qualified friendly staff on hand to support you.

What else should I know?

Annually we take part in a range of national and regional competitions in a wide range of subject areas for those keen to show off the skills they have gained on their courses. Competition entry is not compulsory and does not apply to all subject areas; please ask your tutor if it applies to your course.
