UCG is Proud To Be…
Black History Month is an opportunity for reflection and celebration. We are all proud of something, whether that is something we’ve done or the person that we are. The theme of Black History Month UK 2021 is ‘Proud To Be,’ which invites Black and Brown individuals, families, and communities to focus on how we are all making history in our own ways.
Take a moment to think about what you are “Proud To Be” and share it with our community. We hope you’ll be inspired by what others have shared!
UCG Launches Black History Month Creativity Competition
The United Colleges Group has announced a creativity competition to celebrate Black History Month.
Students will be invited to submit their short stories, poetry, paintings, drawings, and photographs on the theme of black history throughout the month of October with three winners due to be announced at the end of the month.
The competition is open to all students, of all ages and from all courses, and entries can be submitted using whichever medium the student feels best suits their creativity.
It forms part of a month-long series of events which also includes guest lectures and screenings of prominent, black-centred films.
Written work should be no longer than 1,000 words and visual entries should be accompanied by a description of the work.
Students may choose any aspect of black history that speaks to them for their subject matter and are strongly encouraged to draw on their personal experiences for inspiration.
Physical entries can be delivered to the Enrichment Team in room 3NE1 and digital submissions should be sent to enrichment@cwc.ac.uk.
The contest has been designed to promote the mission of Black History Month by encouraging students to reflect on BAME experiences, which are often overlooked by the mainstream media and culture.
Black History Month is very important to everyone at the United Colleges Group, which is lucky to be based in one of the world’s most diverse capital cities, and the Group, its staff, management, and students, are delighted to be celebrating Black History Month.
Stephen Davis, Group Principal of the United Colleges Group, said:
“We at the United Colleges Group value Black History Month very highly and so I’m delighted to see this competition launched.
