CNWL students see science at work

Students from the College of North West London (CNWL) were thrilled to witness the appliance of science during a visit to a unique London laboratory.

Level 3-Y2 Science leaners from the Willesden campus enjoyed a special trip to London Metropolitan University for a Higher Education Taster Day in London Met's Superlab.

The students were treated to a tour of the building before some refreshments and a workshop — then experienced a day in the life at the lab to watch technicians preparing Aspirin in one of the largest and most advanced science teaching facilities in Europe.

It was a fantastic opportunity to also practise what they had learnt in the classroom in areas such as risk assessment, weighing to precision and accuracy and also refluxing and distillation techniques.

"The trip was useful and I gained more insight about life after university. I would love to go on more trips like that,” said one student.

While another enthused: “We did an experiment — how to make Aspirin in their lab — which was very enjoyable and interesting as it helped us recap the experiment we did in college.”
