This qualification will prepare learners to work with children between birth and 5 years and gain knowledge of children up to the age of 7 years old. This qualification prepares learners for employment in the Childcare sector for jobs such as Nursery Assistants, Classroom Assistants, Nannies and Pre-School Assistants. The qualification allows progression onto the CACHE level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (early years educator) providing learners have GCSE A-C in English and Maths.
Learners will study the following units;
• Supporting physical care routines for children • An introduction to the role of the early years practitioner • Understand how to work in partnership • Understand legislation relating to the safeguarding protection and welfare of children • Use legislation relating to the health and safety of children • Use legislation relating to equality, diversity and inclusive practice • Understand how to plan to meet the needs of the developing child • Supporting children’s play • Support children’s play in their early years • Support the needs of the child in preparing for school • Supporting children’s development • Use observation, assessment and planning • Support children’s positive behaviour • Engage in professional development • Support creative play • Support children with additional needs
What are the entry requirements?
Learners must be operating above level 1 for English and Maths. All learners need to complete a DBS application to ensure they are safe to work with children.
How is the course taught?
You will be taught in fully equipped classrooms using a wide range of teaching tools and techniques. You will have access to a wide range of learning materials through the Student Intranet 'Moodle'. Practical sessions will be carried out in relevant workshops or studios where applicable.
How will I be assessed?
You will be assessed by observation, written assignments and witness evidence.
