Students take over at the Ham and High

11 students from the College of North West London and City of Westminster College produced a 'takeover' edition of one of the UK's leading regional newspapers last week.

The 'Ham and High' newspaper of 22 March, published by Archant, contained 25 articles researched and written by the students during their two-week work placement. Additionally the students produced digital content and a blog for the publishers, each based on their own interests and interviews they conducted during the experience.

Anna Dewinter of Archant praised the students for their dedication and hard work throughout the project. "You have produced a diverse range of articles that have made for a fantastic edition of our paper," she told the group at a presentation ceremony. "We hope that our journalists have taught you plenty about the media industry while you were with us; but equally, you all have taught us and shown us ways to connect with our audiences around Camden and beyond."

The 11 students came from a variety of courses at the colleges including media, health and social care and ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages). One of the students, Carrie-Jayne Crawshaw (an A Level learner at CWC) has also been chosen for a paid internship with the paper this summer.
