My role included all aspects of the strategic management of the business as well as the day-to-day operational aspects of the delivering a wide range of training courses. Almost 50 per cent of our business is postgraduate training, recruiting prospective journalists and equipping them with the skills required to find employment.

I developed and run highly successful joint Main International Multimedia Journalism with Newcastle University, which is a unique collaboration between a Russell Group university and industry. Instead of completing a dissertation, students undertake a 12-week period of vocational training which forms a key part of their MA. I develop curriculum for the programme, attend boards of study as well as hold regular review meetings with senior managers at the university.

We also worked with a variety of FE colleges and schools developing and delivering a range of contextualized learning programmes based around the media aimed at delivering employability and literacy skills to young people.

2008-2012 Chair, Yorkshire and Humber East Lifelong Learning Network Partnership. YHELLN was a partnership between Hull University and 14 colleges of further education. My role was to chair the Steering Group of the partnership that was largely made up of college principles. The university was keen to have an independent chair who could ensure full cooperation and collaboration between the members.
